Our 2016 press release.
For Immediate Release: November 21, 2016
Sac Gamers Expo is back for its second year!
Sacramento, Calif. – Sac Gamers Expo will host its 2nd show at the Scottish Rite Center on Dec 11. It’s not just a gathering of all things video game related, but a celebration of video game culture and its history. This year’s show will be bigger and better than ever!
Sac Gamers Expo is proud to present The Nintendo/PlayStation Prototype! Back in 1988, Sony inked a deal with Nintendo to add its then new CD-ROM technology to the upcoming SNES console. However, the 2 companies couldn’t agree to terms and the project was scrapped. The "Nintendo PlayStation" is now the stuff of gaming legend, with reportedly only about 200 prototypes ever produced and destroyed. But, as luck would have it, one of those systems fell into the hands of a father and son: Terry and Dan Diebold. They will be bringing the “Nintendo PlayStation” prototype for display.
Other guests at the show include many well-known YouTubers such as Andre Meadows of Black Nerd Comedy; Katie Wilson of Full Screen Media’s Kingdom Geek; Austin Lockwood of Gnoggin; Dena Natali of Channel Awesome; Arlo; Sean Long; and Rich Alvarez - people from the gaming industry (Brian Linville, founder of Stigma Games; Russell Barba, an early 90s Sega game artist; David Hellman, the visual artist for the 2008 indie smash hit Braid; Chris Kohler, a 20 year video game journalist veteran and the Games Section editor for WIRED Magazine) Scott Zillner (a Professional Toy Prototype Artist and Prop Maker who has done work for JAKKS Pacific, Disney and other companies) and the hosts of Sacramento’s own video game podcast “Videogame BANG!” Most of our guests will be participating in panels and FREE autograph sessions!
Event highlights include an exhibitor room full of vendors, artists and independent game developers. There will also be video game tournaments with prizes, a console game room with various games to play from old to current systems, a crayon coloring zone for kids, panels and workshops, a viewing room showing game related content, a live DJ, and a museum room with displays of rare gaming items and much more.
Sac Gamers Expo is on Sunday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Center. The show is open to the public and prides itself on being a family-friendly environment. Admission at the door is $10 each (CASH ONLY AT THE DOOR!). Children 8 and under with paid adult are FREE.
